Former Italy striker Antonio Cassano has torn into Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over leaked comments he made about Mikel Arteta following his controversial departure from Arsenal. The Gabon international frontman left the Emirates Stadium on a sour note in January after his relationship with the Gunners boss broke down after four years in north London.

Arteta detailed his reasoning behind the decision to ditch Aubameyang in the Amazon Prime series ‘All or Nothing’ – declaring he looked into the striker’s eyes and could no longer trust him following a series of disciplinary breaches.

In the past few days, fresh footage has come to light of Aubameyang criticising Arteta in a hotel room during a private conversation in which he stated the Arsenal head coach couldn’t handle big characters.

“I remember they [Barcelona] first called my father,” Aubameyang told A Jewellers.

“We knew the coach, Xavi, then he called me and said there is an opportunity because you have those problems with Arsenal, but if you come you will help us a lot, so I said, ‘okay’.

“But to manage big characters or big players, he (Arteta) can’t deal with it.

“He (Arteta) needs some young players, they don’t say anything, they listen.”

Now Casino has hit out at the 33-year-old, claiming he struggles to even trap the ball in a savage attack on the Chelsea striker.

He said on Bobo TV: “Now Aubameyang is speaking as well. He dares to say that Arteta doesn’t know how to handle champions. Does Aubameyang consider himself a champion? But he doesn’t know how to trap the ball.

“When Arteta took Arsenal, in a general disaster, there were many players among that AND he was there too.

“Try to play football instead of talking about Arteta, who is first in the most important league in the world. For me, it’s madness.”

Aubameyang issued a pubic apology after the video surfaced on social media, defending his actions which he claims were clouded by negative emotions.

He tweeted: “[I am] Aware there is a video out that was recorded just after I arrived at Barca.

“At the time I still had a lot of bad feelings in me – Arsenal are doing great things this season and I wish all my old guys, just not on November 6, now full focus on tomorrow.”

The frontman, who was brought back to the Premier League by Thomas Tuchel on transfer deadline day, is enjoying a purple patch under new boss Graham Potter.

Aubameyang has scored in each of his last three outings including back-to-back Champions League wins over former club AC Milan.
