Chelsea offer Timo Werner in bid to hijack PSG's deal for Nordi Mukiele
Chelsea have offered RB Leipzig Timo Werner in a desperate bid to hijack Paris Saint-Germain’s deal to sign defender Nordi Mukiele.
The Ligue 1 giants have reportedly agreed a £55million deal for the 24-year-old and they had hoped to complete the transfer this week.
Mukiele, a France international, is adept at right wing-back and centre-back.
Thomas Tuchel is desperate to bolster his defensive options after losing Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger but only Kalidou Koulibaly has joined so far this summer.
The Blues are desperate to complete a deal for Sevilla ace Jules Kounde but he remains keen on Barcelona, who have asked him to postpone a decision on his future as they attempt to balance the books before processing any new arrivals.
That’s seen Chelsea explore alternative options and Mukiele is considered one of the brightest prospects in Europe, particularly given his tactical flexibility.
And, despite Mukiele being keen on a move to the French capital, Foot Mercato say Chelsea have made a late big to hijack the move.
The Blues haven’t attempted to match PSG’s £55m offer for the defender, preferring instead to offer Werner in part-exchange.
Chelsea signed Werner from the German club two years ago in a £52m deal but he’s failed to impress at Stamford Bridge.
Werner made his name with Leipzig and a return to the club could help him rediscover his best form before the World Cup.
The German’s scored just 23 goals in 90 matches for Chelsea, though he’s also provided 21 assists in that time.
Nevertheless, he’s failed to gain the trust of Tuchel, who wants to transform his side’s style of play this term.
