Raheem Sterling may give Chelsea an advantage over Arsenal in the race to sign Wilfried Gnonto with the young Leeds star describing the England international as ‘incredible’. The Italian is reportedly a target for the London clubs after making an impressive start to life in the Premier League after arriving from Zurich in the summer.
Gnonto has been one of Leeds’ standout players this season with the Yorkshire side struggling at the wrong end of the division. The 19-year-old has grabbed four goals and three assists in his first 20 appearances, usually from starting in a wide position, while he has become a regular for the Italian national team.
His positive start has not gone unnoticed by other Premier League clubs with Gazzetta Dello Sport reporting that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are all interested in his signature. However, it is the Blues that could be in the strongest position thanks to Sterling, with Gnonto talking up his respect for the England star.
“Coming up against him in the Premier League was incredible,” he told Corriere della Sera ahead of this week’s international fixtures. “I enjoy every moment.”

Gnonto’s minutes have reduced in recent weeks with Javi Gracia not considering him to be an automatic pick. He is yet to start a game under the Spaniard but he remains a hot prospect with much more experience than is usually expected for players his age.
Chelsea, Arsenal and City are not the only ones to have noticed Gnonto’s ability with Micah Richards waxing lyrical about his start to life in England last month. The former England international described him as one of the signings of the season for what he had achieved up to that point.

“This lad here, Gnonto, he is an absolute livewire,” he explained ahead of the Leeds clash with Manchester United at Elland Road. “Absolutely brilliant. He’s outstanding. If you just look there at his chances created, the dribbles… he’s got absolutely everything.
“You know what it is? When he comes on the pitch he’s absolutely fearless, he’s like ‘I’m going to run at you, I don’t care which defender I’m playing against, I’m going to go both ways,’ and he’s been one of the signings of the season. Excellent.”
It remains to be seen whether or not Chelsea and Arsenal will solidify their rumoured interest but the Blues may feel they hold an advantage given the presence of Sterling.
