Chelsea legend Petr Cech has pleaded with fans protesting outside Stamford Bridge this evening after they blocked the team buses from entering.

Home supporters flocked to the stadium and staged a sit-down protest over the plans to join the controversial European Super League.

Cech was filmed by a fan shouting at supporters, urging them to let the team buses through just an hour before kick-off.

"Let people sort this out, this is not the way. Let the bus go in," the former goalkeeper said.

Hundreds of fans were outside the stadium protesting the news Chelsea would be joining five other Premier League sides in the breakaway tournament which has been universally condemned.

Chelsea fans and rival supporters from around the globe have rejected the idea, which has also been slammed by politicians, managers and players.

Hundreds attended tonight's protest, armed with banners and signs.

Former manager Frank Lampard's name could be heard in chants, despite his exit earlier this season.

One sign pictured being held by fans said: "This isn't the club we fell in love with."

Speaking this week, manager Thomas Tuchel said: “I do not get involved with the subjects around us. I trust my club to make the right decisions, I think it is too early to judge. My role is to be a coach and stay focused.

“I do not want to get involved in it [the reaction] because I do not think we know the details. I have known the general situation since yesterday.

“I was not involved, my players were not involved in this decision-making. We have the possibility to step back, not give our opinions and don’t lose our heads about this.”

Chelsea's fixture with Brighton is expected to go ahead, despite the trouble outside the stadium.

The Blues continue to challenge for the Champions League, despite concerns the tournament may not be open to them next season.
