Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy in ‘beyond crazy’ blunder against Leeds
Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy gifted Leeds United with a "beyond crazy" blunder at Elland Road.
Mendy was caught in possession inside his own penalty area by Leeds forward Brenden Aaronson, who was given the simplest of tasks after taking the ball off the Blues keeper. Things went from bad to worse moments later for Thomas Tuchel's side as Rodrigo Moreno headed a second beyond Mendy to give Leeds a two-goal lead after just 37 minutes.
Fans were quick to slam Mendy's lack of urgency in clearing the ball following his mistake, with his blunder labelled "beyond crazy" by Sky Sports co-commentator Don Goodman.

One supporter tweeted: "What a stinker man." Meanwhile, another added: "When are these keepers just gonna start kicking the ball again."
A third fan also wrote: "This the same mistake he did against Real Madrid in the Champions League."
Mendy was punished by Karim Benzema after being caught in possession during Chelsea's European clash with Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge last season.

He has clearly not learned from that mistake, though, following his latest blunder, which left Leeds boss Jesse Marsch sprinting down the touchline in celebration.
Having been dispossessed, Mendy was unable to tackle Aaronson and was left with his head in his hands as the American tapped the ball into an empty net.
Just four minutes after Aaronson's opener, Leeds doubled their lead as Rodrigo claimed his fourth goal of the season. The Spaniard's fine header directed Jack Harrison's free-kick beyond a helpless Mendy and into the far corner.
Mendy has been impressive in goal for Chelsea since joining the club in 2020, with his shot-stopping regularly praised by fans and pundits.
He was named both FIFA The Best goalkeeper and UEFA's goalkeeper of the year in 2021. However, his ability on the ball has been questioned in the past, even before his crucial error at Elland Road.
