Blues owner Todd Boehly has been searching for someone to fill the role for the last few weeks

Webber, 38, has been with Norwich for five years, and has overseen two promotions to the Premier League.

He has however been involved in two relegations, including last year’s disastrous campaign, having previously spent two years at Huddersfield.

He helped the Terriers to the top division in 2017, but they were relegated two years later.

Webber has also worked at Wrexham, where he was Head of Youth Development, Liverpool, working alongside Kenny Dalglish and former Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez, QPR, and Wolves.

Former RB Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell seemed set to take up the role, but talks broke down and Boehly was forced to continue his search.

Ex Liverpool man Michael Edwards and PSG’s Luis Campos are among others that have been linked with the job.

Boehly handled the majority of Chelsea’s summer business, working alongside Behdad Eghbali as the Blues signed nine players in the summer.
