Chelsea fans have been slammed for "classless" chanting of the club's Russian owner Roman Abramovich during Burnley's show of support for Ukraine.

Thomas Tuchel's side are taking on the Clarets at Turf Moor on Saturday, but the game's build-up was marred by a chant from the away end.

Prior to the match, Burnley held a minutes' applause to show solidarity with Ukraine following Russia's decision to invade the country and invoke war.

However, the club's tribute was spoiled as the Blues' travelling supporters opted to show their appreciation for the club's owner Abramovich, who this week declared his intentions to sell the club.

Chelsea fans interrupted the Turf Moor applause with chants of 'Roman Abramovich, Roman Abramovich'.

The chorus was then met with a fierce reaction from Burnley fans, who roundly booed the away fans.

Following the sour scenes, one football fan took to Twitter to label Chelsea a "classless club" in response to their ill-timed decision to laud their departing owner.

Abramovich announced on Wednesday that he intended to sell Chelsea amid speculation over government sanctions following Russia 's invasion of Ukraine.

The owner's statement read: "As I have stated before, I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart.

"In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the Club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the Club, the fans, the employees, as well as the Club’s sponsors and partners."

He added: "Moreover, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated.

"The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine."
