Chelsea fans beg for Andreas Christensen to leave after "howler" gifts Arsenal
Andreas Christensen has been slammed by Chelsea fans after gifting Arsenal a goal in their Premier League clash.
Stamford Bridge was rocked by an early Gunners goal as the underdogs took the lead after just 13 minutes of play. Defender Nuno Tavares punted the ball up-field for Eddie Nketiah to chase, though it appeared a fruitless attempt with Blues centre-back Christensen the clear favourite to reach the ball first.
But the Dane, under pressure from Nketiah, suffered a moment of madness as he fluffed his back pass to Edouard Mendy in goal. The Arsenal striker was able to pounce on the mistake and punish the home side with a sublime finish past the Senegalese goalkeeper.
Sky Sports commentator and Arsenal legend Alan Smith labelled the mistake a "howler" as Chelsea fans also took to social media to slam the defender.
Smith said: "He [Nketiah] is a superb finisher there's no doubt about it. But it's a howler from Christensen.
"Mendy had a deeper starting position and couldn't come for it. Maybe Alisson or Ederson would have been on the edge of their box and able to come out."
