Former Premier League striker Charlie Austin believes Chelsea are “crying out” for Romelu Lukaku. Thomas Tuchel could be eyeing a new striker this summer, with two first-team stars nearing the exit door.
Lukaku has had an incredible season in Italy, helping Inter Milan win their first Serie A title in 11 years.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally of 29 goals is higher than the Belgium international’s 23 in the league, as he’s established himself as one of Europe’s elite strikers.
At Stamford Bridge, Tuchel’s arrival has seen Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham’s game time plummet, despite the duo being among the club’s top goalscorers this term.
Giroud has made just five starts under the German boss, while Abraham has made four, which has left many expecting both to pursue regular football elsewhere.
Lukaku left Chelsea for Everton in 2014 after making just 15 appearances across three seasons. But now, 192 goals later, Stamford Bridge could be calling his name once more.

Speaking on TalkSPORT Breakfast on Wednesday morning, Austin claimed Lukaku’s Chelsea return could be a match made in heaven.
He said: “Lukaku fits the mould for what Chelsea are crying out for, doesn’t he?
“He’s gone away; he’s won Serie A, he’s scored goals, after goals, after goals.
“He could be thinking, ‘I’ll come back to England now, I was part of Chelsea at the start, I feel I can come back and have a right good go at it.’
“He’s a top player. He left Man United, and it was a mad decision by them to let him go. It was a big loss for Man United.
“He’d be brilliant for the Premier League and Chelsea.”
Abraham hasn’t started for Chelsea since February, and reports suggest the Blues are open to offers of around £40million for his services.
With Frank Lampard heavily linked with the Crystal Palace job, Selhurst Park has been touted as a potential destination for the 23-year-old this summer.
Austin expects Abraham to shine if he joins the Eagles, partly due to the drop in pressure compared to representing Chelsea.
“Tammy Abraham would go there and be the main man,” Austin explained.
“He’d probably thrive for a team like Palace. There wouldn’t be too much expectation.
“He can go and score double-figure goals, and that’s tough in the Premier League.
“But the demand is not constantly there like it is at Chelsea. If you don’t perform, you get scrutinised. That’s what’s happening to Timo Werner now.”
Abraham was Chelsea’s top goalscorer with Lampard at the helm, so a reunion in South London would be an enticing outcome.
