Chelsea have asked about the availability of Miralem Pjanic, according to reports. The Blues are set for a busy summer transfer window, and are reportedly interested in bolstering their midfield options.
Chelsea could take advantage of Pjanic’s difficult situation at the Nou Camp.
The midfielder joined Barca last summer from Juventus.
He signed in a swap deal with Arthur going the other way, but his move to Spain has been a nightmare so far.
The Bosnia international, 30, has started just six games in La Liga this season, as well as six in the Champions League.
And it seems he could already be allowed to leave the club.
Spanish outlet SPORT claims Ronald Koeman has little faith in Pjanic, and doesn’t view him as a starter.
However, despite Koeman’s stance, he has attracted attention from Chelsea and newly-crowned Italian champions Inter Milan.
The report claims the Blues were interested in signing him last summer, but withdrew from the bidding.
Instead, Chelsea decided against making any signings in the middle of the pitch, opting to bring in new defenders and attackers instead.
But this summer, they appear to want to reinforce the middle of midfield by moving for Pjanic.
However, Inter apparently believe he’s still got what it takes to compete in Serie A, and want to move for the 30-year-old.
Pjanic will reportedly only make a decision at the end of the season.
He is said to be eager to stay at Barcelona and is convinced that he’ll get a chance at minutes before long.
Pjanic’s future could well be decided by Koeman’s, however.
If the Barca boss doesn’t leave this summer, the midfielder is apparently concerned that he’ll always be second-choice at the Nou Camp.
That could pave the way for him to leave for either Chelsea or Inter.
