Chelsea may not be able to leave the European Super League due to a "binding contract".
The Blues are reportedly looking into ways of opting out of the breakaway league which they had joined alongside 12 teams including fellow Premier League sides Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.
But fans have reacted furiously, protesting outside Stamford Bridge and threatening to stop the team bus getting in for their clash against Brighton.
This has seen them start to 'prepare documentation' to leave the ESL as well as City – but a leading figure in the ESL has said that it may not be that easy for the "Big Six" side.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, the architect of the league, has claimed that the teams are locked into the league through documentation.
Speaking to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, he said: "The contract of the Super League is binding. Nobody can leave, we will work all together.
“All the clubs signed the contracts last Saturday, there's no problem.”
Los Blancos, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Inter and Juventus are the other teams in the ESL, with three others reportedly being brought in.
The midweek tournament would be made up of 20 teams, with the founders having their places guaranteed and the remaining five allowed in on qualifications.
It has greeted with furious backlash around the footballing world, with UEFA, FIFA and the Premier League all threatening to ban the teams from their compeition.
Despite this, Perez has remained unmoved in his desire to force the plans through.

"Audiences are decreasing and rights are decreasing and something had to be done. We are all ruined. Television has to change so we can adapt.
"Young people are no longer interested in football. Why not? Because there are a lot of poor quality games and they are not interested, they have other platforms on which to distract themselves."
