Liverpool and Chelsea have shown interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul, according to reports. Manchester United still remain the favourites for his signature, but their two Premier League rivals are now said to be chasing the Spaniard.
After the arrival of Udinese midfielder Rodrigo de Paul at Atletico, Saul has dropped down the pecking order under Diego Simeone.
He made 22 starts in La Liga last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Spanish outlet Marca states that both Chelsea and Liverpool have been in contact with Saul’s agents over a potential move this summer.
Thomas Tuchel is said to be interested in the midfielder, as the European Champions look to strengthen their squad in the transfer window.
“Two or three [players] could be very, very good,” he said after the Blues’ Champions League final win over Manchester City.

“It’s a constant thing to never deny change.
“That you always bring new energy, new guys who question the old beliefs, who challenge everybody in the training and in matches, so I think it’s a good thing.
“We don’t need another seven and another complete turnover because it’s also our job to keep on improving.
“We have still a young squad and it’s not about stealing from them the chance to prove it again that they are capable of growing and evolving.”

Liverpool are also mentioned, as they look to find a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, who left the Reds this summer for PSG.
The Dutchman was a key player for Jurgen Klopp, scoring some important goals during his five years at the club.
And Saul could thrive under Klopp, providing the energy in midfield that they could be lacking after Wijnaldum’s departure.
Marca denies reports that United have made a £50million bid, but adds that that sort of figure could be enough to secure Saul’s signature.

With reports that Paul Pogba could be leaving the club, more additions in central midfield are needed.
The Frenchman is reportedly stalling on signing a new contract with the club, which could lead to United selling him this summer.
Saul responded to reports linking with the Red Devils last year.
“I am very flattered that a club like Manchester United, or other teams that ask about me, take me into consideration. For me it is very positive,” he said.
