Celtic target Holm changed his name because of Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara
Five potential transfer destinations for Harry Kane
Celtic are reportedly in talks to sign Norwegian star Odin Thiago Holm, in what would be a major coup for the Scottish side. The midfielder has attracted plenty of interest over the past few years, including from Premier League outfits, and has had the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of his hero, Thiago Alcantara.
Celtic are hoping to build upon their treble-winning campaign this summer, despite losing Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham. Those who are ready to step straight into the first team are being considered, though that element of recruitment will be overseen by their new boss – likely to be ex-Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers.
However, those at Celtic Park appear to be pressing on with negotiations for younger prospects who could develop into stars. According to reports, a £2.6million bid for Thiago has recently been accepted by Norwegian side Valerenga, with the midfielder expected to arrive at Parkhead for his medical imminently.
The midfielder has been tried to be lured away from Scandinavian football previously but opted to remain so that he can develop to a level where he is ready to push for first-team minutes at his next club. And he appears to have achieved that by taking inspiration from Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who he re-named himself after previously due to his admiration of the playmaker.

According to Football Scotland, the 20-year-old has always dreamed of playing for Barcelona and in 2017, whilst Thiago was at the Camp Nou, he managed to convince his parents to approve of the name change. They approved the paperwork and an application was sent off to the Norwegian registry, and then approved.
Speaking about the decision, the soon-to-be Celtic prospect explained: “It’s something I’ve struggled with for many, many years, until mum and dad gave up and said “okay”. Dad in particular was not entirely positive about it. But luckily they agreed to it in the end. It was a bit about it being fun, and then it’s more international. That was it actually, I think it sounded cool and is kind of funny.”

If Thiago Holm is as influential as Thiago Alcantara has been throughout his career then he will be a roaring success at Celtic, especially given that he could be thrown in at the deep end under Rodgers following speculation linking Matt O’Riley with a move away from the club.
The midfielder is said to be attracting interest from around Europe, with Brighton and Leicester among those reportedly keen.
