Casemiro caught asking Carlo Ancelotti if he should get intentional yellow card
Real Madrid star Casemiro was caught asking his boss, Carlo Ancelotti, if he should intentionally get a yellow card on Wednesday evening.
The Brazilian was only one yellow card away from a suspension, and missing the final group stage game against Inter Milan would give him a clean slate for the knockout round.
Madrid had just hit their third of the game against Sheriff Tiraspol, and with the rest of his teammates celebrating, Casemiro popped the question.
But Ancelotti was quick to say no, and he later confirmed: "He told me he was one booking away from suspension and didn’t want to risk collecting that yellow.
"He asked if I could take him off. I waited a little, then took him off to avoid that suspension coming against Inter."
This isn't the first time Real have been involved in deliberately trying to miss matches to clean their disciplinary slate.
In 2010, with Jose Mourinho at the helm, both Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos were instructed to get their second yellows of the game.
After a lengthy investigation, Mourinho was handed a touchline ban while the red cards stood.
Ramos pulled a similar stunt in 2019 when he deliberately collected a yellow against Ajax's Kasper Dolberg.

After initially being shocked by Sheriff earlier this season, Real were able to flex their Champions League muscles on Wednesday evening.
Sheriff experienced a reality check as the soaring Real moved to the top of the group with one game left in the group stage.
