BT Sport issues silence Peter Walton in Man City game – leaving fans buzzing

BT Sport were unable to get a hold of Peter Walton during Manchester City's 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich – much to the delight of viewers.

The broadcaster usually bring in the former referee to discuss decisions during their Champions League coverage. Right on cue, they teed him up after City were awarded a first-half penalty for handball in the second leg of their quarter-final against Bayern, which they won 4-1 on aggregate.

Walton spoke – but he appeared to be on the phone to someone else and was then cut off before Erling Haaland blazed the spot kick over the bar.

It's fair to say fans watching on at home weren't too fussed about the technical issue. One tweeted: "Let's bring Peter Walton in and see what he thinks about the penalty…we can't get a hold of him…thank god for that!!"

One wrote: "What a blessing that is!" Another added: "Hope it's a regular occurrence, win win for football fans."

"What a shame we don't get to hear from Peter Walton and his thoughts on the handball," sarcastically commented one, while another echoed: "Absolutely gutted they can’t make contact with Peter Walton to get his much required opinion."

One argued: “'We can’t make contact with Peter' is the only thing I want to hear about Peter Walton." One posted: "Thank f*** I didn't have to hear Peter Walton's company man thoughts."

"BT Sport unable to make contact with Peter Walton… that’s a shame. I wanted to hear him excuse the referee’s decision as he always does," said another.

And one argued: "Probably the best words I’ve ever heard during commentary on @btsport during the @FCBayern and @ManCity 'We can’t make contact with Peter Walton at the moment'."
