Brighton are reportedly not alone in the pursuit of the versatile veteran, with Vincent Kompany’s newly promoted Burnley side also interested in signing Milner.

However, Klopp remains a fan of the utility man and wishes to keep him at Anfield next season, but the club are yet to show any sign of entering into contract negotiations with the 61-time England international.

Milner’s potential arrival in East Sussex would add needed experience to the Brighton squad if they are to qualify for Europe next season, with strength in depth also something that Roberto De Zerbi would likely be willing to address.

The Seagulls have already agreed a club-record £30million deal to sign Watford forward Joao Pedro and are seemingly looking to continue their early transfer business by poaching Milner from under Klopp’s nose after previously signing Adam Lallana from Liverpool in similar circumstances in 2020.

Albion’s World Cup winning midfielder Alexis Mac Allister looks set to be on the move in the summer, and the Reds are likely to be in the race to sign him given their engine room problems.
