Brentford have opened talks with manager Thomas Frank over a new deal – just nine months after the Dane signed his last contract extension.

In January, Frank committed himself to Brentford until 2025 but the club are now discussing new terms amid possible interest from elsewhere.

Sportsmail has been told that no agreement has been reached with the 49-year-old, who led Brentford to the Premier League and currently has them sitting in the top half of the table.

Frank celebrated his 200th game in charge last week, having succeeded Dean Smith as head coach four years ago this month.

His success with Brentford has turned heads elsewhere and it’s understood he would be on the radar of both Leicester and Aston Villa – should either Brendan Rodgers or Steven Gerrard leave their respective roles. Frank would also appear an obvious candidate to take over as Denmark boss at the end of Kasper Hjulmand’s tenure. Frank worked with the country’s age-group setup before moving to England.

‘It’s very simple. I’m here at Brentford and very happy,’ he said on links with Leicester recently.

Following Friday’s win over Brighton, the Dane was again asked about his future. It was put to Frank: why would you want to be anywhere else?

‘That’s a good question, this is a lovely football club, we have achieve a lot of things over the last years. A wonderful, wonderful journey and I still think it’s just a journey – there is no end target or goal. The sky is the limit,’ he said.

‘We have the foundations to create an even more unique club. I think it’s a unique club in many ways… I’m really enjoying it here.’

Frank added: ‘Sometimes things just click. Everything from the relationship with me and the fans, me and the owner, me and the board, the sporting director, the staff. There’s a good vibe about it plus that driven mindset to get better every day.’
