Brazilian football chaos as over 100 fans burst onto pitch and scrap each other

A Brazilian football match turned into chaos after a last-minute goal caused the flurry of over 100 fans to charge onto the pitch and fight each other.

The Brasileiro Serie A clash between Cruzeiro and Coritiba had relegation-implications with both sides nearing the bottom of the table. It was Coritiba who came out on top after a 91st minute winner from Robson Fernandes secured all three points for the home side.

The goal was too much for Cruzeiro fans to handle as mass numbers of their supporters made their way onto the pitch as they charged over to the home crowd. The Coritiba fans also stormed onto the pitch as a giant brawl then broke out.

Videos of the clashes were posted on social media as security staff were spotted attempting to hold fans back but failed due to the sheer number of people on the pitch. Home side Coritiba released a statement after the incident as they called the brawl "unacceptable".

"The Coritiba Football Club comes out to vehemently repudiate the field invasion initiated by the fans do Cruzeiro, right after Coritiba's goal, which gave rise to widespread turmoil," it read. "Situations like this are unacceptable and only harm clubs and Brazilian football. The club is working to identify the invaders and those responsible for the incident."

Despite the victory, Coritiba are still in the relegation zone and are eight points behind Cruzeiro with four games left of the season. One player in the Brazilian league that hit the headlines this past weekend was former Liverpool legend, Luis Suarez, who scored a 19-minute hat-trick as Gremio defeated Botafogo after coming back from 3-1 down to clinch 4-3 victory.

The 36-year-old has been linked with a reunion with Lionel Messi as rumours heat up about a potential move to Inter Miami. The pair played together for six years at Barcelona as the Uruguayan previously admitted that they "dreamed" of finishing their respective careers together.

He told Uruguayan TV show Punto Penal: “It was something that we always planned when we were at Barcelona. And from one year to the next I went to Atletico and he went to PSG. We dreamed of it and we talked about it that after Barcelona we would go to the United States."
