Brazil legend Ze Roberto believes he could ‘easily’ play for Man City aged 47

Brazilian football legend Ze Roberto has astonishingly claimed he could still play for Manchester City despite being 47 years old.

The former midfielder last played for Palmeiras in December 2017, retiring aged 43 after a decorated 23-year career where he represented Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Hamburg, amongst others.

Even now, Ze Roberto remains in spectacular shape despite his five-year absence from professional football, regularly posting workout clips and pictures of his shredded physique on social media.

And that has prompted the ex-Bayern star to outlandishly claim he could still fit into Pep Guardiola’s Man City, which is widely seen as one of the best sides in the world.

Ze Roberto told Sky Sports: "I have never stopped training.

"If I was to wear the City shirt today, in the physical condition I'm in, and with the way they play, I believe I could play in central midfield for them easily because it's a team which never loses the ball."

His claim comes despite the Premier League champions boasting an extremely high level of tactical and technical ability alongside their physical prowess.

Ze Roberto himself amassed over 1000 career appearances during his playing days and managed to get a sensational 84 caps for Brazil, featuring in two World Cups.

And he claims it is unlikely that even Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo can replicate his achievements by playing beyond 40.

He added: "I don't think so because with every year that passes, football becomes more physical.

"In the coming years, if you are not physically good, you are not going to be able to play in the modern game at a high level.

"Every year, the average age of when footballers start their professional careers is going down and logically that means the average age of when they finish their careers will go down too, so I think it's difficult for anyone to play at a high level at 40 now."
