Borussia Dortmund want Moukoko to make a decision about his future

Borussia Dortmund chief Sebastian Kehl tells Youssoufa Moukoko he ‘wants an answer by SUNDAY’ on whether he accepts their ‘attractive contract offer’… as he promises there will otherwise be a ‘parting of ways’

  • Youssoufa Moukoko’s contract at Borussia Dortmund expires in the summer
  • The club say they have made an ‘attractive offer’ for the 18-year-old forward
  • Sebastian Kehl ‘wants an answer by Sunday’ as to whether the player renews
  • He promised there will otherwise be a ‘parting of ways’ between both parties

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly told Youssoufa Moukoko to make a decision about his future by the weekend or there will be a ‘parting of ways’.

The 18-year-old’s contract with the German giants expires this summer, leaving European teams like Chelsea, Barcelona and Newcastle on red alert.

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl told Germany’s Kicker magazine that the club had made a ‘very attractive offer’ and wanted an answer from Moukoko before Dortmund plays Augsburg on Sunday.

Youssoufa Moukoko has reportedly been given until Sunday to accept a new contract offer

Kehl said: ‘Youssoufa can accept this offer now and commit to Borussia Dortmund, or else there will be a parting of the ways.

‘I would wish that he chooses us because he hasn’t yet completed his development and I see huge potential in him. But for us as a club there are limits.’

Moukoko’s prolific record of scoring in youth leagues prompted the Bundesliga to rewrite its rulebook so he could make his senior debut at 16, rather than the old minimum age of 17.

Moukoko is one of the most in-demand players in Europe with his deal expiring this summer

He duly became the youngest player ever to play in the Bundesliga one day after his 16th birthday in November 2020, and less than three weeks later, he became the youngest player to play in the Champions League.

The teenager’s expiring contract has put teams like Chelsea, Barcelona and Newcastle on red alert.

Sky Sports Germany reported on Friday there have been positive talks between the player and club, with agreement very likely on a new four-year contract.

Sky stated there was a breakthrough in negotiations between BVB and Moukoko’s agent Patrick Williams at the club’s current training camp in Marbella – though some details need to be finalised.

Despite this nothing has been signed yet, despite the new deal said to be worth around £50,000-per-week in basic salary – potentially up to £85,000 including bonuses.

Two-cap international Moukoko has six goals in 14 Bundesliga appearances this campaign

Club chief Hans-Joachim Watzke said last week: ‘Of course we hope that he will stay with us.’

In December, responding to reports he was holding up contract talks with Dortmund, Moukoko tweeted: ‘Please don’t believe everything that’s been written in the papers. I won’t let myself be pressured into a decision about my future. I will never accept such a lie about me.

‘My full focus is on the second half of the season with Borussia Dortmund. No player is bigger than the club and I will never be bigger than the club, just a small part of it. It’s really sad that something like that is invented just to paint you fans a wrong picture about me. I am really shocked by this story.’
