Ben White’s Arsenal medical set for this week as Gunners spree continues
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is set to be boosted by the signing of Brighton defender Ben White this week as he eyes a return to Champions League football with a top four finish.
The Spaniard watched his side finish eighth in the Premier League last season while falling short in cup competition, but they did win their final five games of the campaign.
White, who was named as part of the England squad for Euro 2020 by Gareth Southgate, impressed under Graham Potter last time out having helped Leeds to promotion from the Championship in 2019/20.
With the agreement set to cost the Gunners a hefty £50m, he will become the most expensive defender in their history and the third most overall behind only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe.
Sky Sports News report that White will undergo a medical with his expected new club on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old helped the Seagulls concede only 46 goals from 38 league outings last season, which was the best in the bottom half of the final table.
He is set to join Nuno Tavares of Benfica and Albert Sombi Lokonga of Anderlecht in joining Arsenal during the current window, with further links being made to Sheffield United's Aaron Ramsdale.

Earlier this week, Arsenal cruised past Millwall with a line-up that included the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Aubameyang, Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey.
While those four failed to get on the scoresheet, Calum Chambers, Nicolas Pepe, Folarin Balogun and Alexandre Lacazette were on hand to secure the victory.
Another reason to be excited is the arrival of Lokonga, who is set to cost the club in the region of £18million.
Technical director Edu said of his arrival: “We are delighted Albert has signed with us, as there was a lot of interest in him and he was a big target for us.
"Albert is a player we’ve been tracking for some time, and he will bring us strength in depth in the centre of midfield.
"We look forward to his continued development with us.”
