Ben Foster reminded one young fan to remember to say “please” after being asked for a photo in the car park ahead of his second Wrexham debut against York City. Foster, 39, came out of retirement to help his former club in their bid to reach League Two, with the Hollywood-owned club sat on top of the National League with 97 points after 39 games.

An injury to first-team goalkeeper Rob Lainton was also a reason for Foster’s return and his signing caused quite a stir among the Wrexham fanbase. Ahead of his second debut against York City on Saturday, Foster was stopped by two young fans in the car park.

But when asking for a selfie, one forgot to say the magic word “please!”, which Foster quickly prompted the young lad for with a smile. Foster added: “Oh, imagine that? ‘Please!’, that’s all you need to say.” Good guy Foster then posed for the picture.

Foster’s debut couldn’t have gone any better, keeping a clean sheet as his team-mates scored three goals. Wrexham now hold a three-point advantage over title rivals Notts County and have a game in hand, and there are just seven games left to play.

Foster will be back in action on Saturday as Wrexham welcome Oldham Athletic to the Racecourse Ground. A win would tip the Wales-based club onto 100 points.

After the game, Foster caught up with one of his new bosses, Hollywood A-lister Ryan Reynolds. The Deadpool lead actor joined in with helping Foster promote his jersey giveaway, and made sure to give it a good whiff, before adding: “Smells exactly like victory, and some other stuff…”

Should Foster extend his stay at Wrexham beyond this season, he could find himself playing against one of his former teams, Manchester United, during pre-season. Wrexham’s clash with Erik ten Hag’s side is scheduled to go down in San Diego at the Snapdragon Stadium in July.

The match announcement involved a hilariously awkward exchange between Reynolds, Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney and United’s greatest-ever manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. The two actors attempt to converse with blank-faced Ferguson before Reynolds hangs up the call after McElhenney makes an excuse for a hair appointment.

Reynolds added: “I told you – legendary intimidator. Lives right up here.” Ferguson adds the punchline by revealing that Reynolds and McElhenney’s microphone had been on mute.
