Bayern Munich view Tottenham transfer target as Dayot Upamecano alternative
Transfer update: Latest on Haaland, Messi and Salah
Bayern Munich are reportedly eyeing a move for Real Madrid defender Eder Militao after cooling their interest in Dayot Upamecano, according to reports. Militao has rarely featured under Zinedine Zidane so far this season, playing just 134 minutes in La Liga as well as the entirety of Real’s Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in October.
The 23-year-old is also reportedly attracting interest from Tottenham, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund who have all been alerted to the possibility of a move in recent weeks.
He joined Real from Porto in 2019 for a reported £45million fee, but has failed to make his mark on the side which is said to be harming his hopes of playing for Brazil in this year’s Copa America.
According to German outlet Bild, the Spanish giants are happy to send Militao out on loan this month, with Bayern seeing him as a cheaper alternative to RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano.
The report claims that Leipzig have slapped a £40m price tag on their prized asset to ward off any interest.
Upamecano’s name has dominated the headlines for some time, with the 22-year-old having been tipped to join the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool in recent seasons.

If Bayern pursue a loan move for Miltao, it could prove to be a huge blow for Spurs with manager Jose Mourinho reportedly a huge fan of the player.
It has been claimed by Corriere Dello Sport that the charismatic Portuguese boss made just one demand to Daniel Levy ahead of the January transfer window, asking the Spurs chairman to focus on striking a deal for Militao before the end of the month.
However, Bayern could decide to wait until the summer to launch a permanent bid, with David Alaba and Jerome Boateng highly likely to leave the club at the end of the season.
This could allow Spurs to land him this month on a short-term basis.
Mourinho previously revealed that he is not expecting the club to be particularly busy in the transfer market with Spurs still in with a chance of winning the Premier League title.
The north London side currently sit fifth in the table, five points adrift of leaders Leicester City despite having played a game less.
“I’m not expecting [a lot of business], no,” Mourinho told the Evening Standard.
“Times are not easy and the club made a big effort in the summer to try to build a good squad. Honestly, if something good happens to us it’d be a big surprise for me.
“I don’t feel the right to ask for something. One thing is to analyse, which of course I do. One thing is to analyse and to commit to that analysis, write a report and be committed to that report, which of course I did. I have to be professional.
“Another thing is to demand [new players] which I never do. And another thing is to ask for [new players] and I’m not going to ask for anything because I respect the effort that the club made [in the summer].”
Spurs will return to FA Cup action on Monday night following the win over eighth-tier Marine in the third round.
Mourinho’s men will face Championship side Wycombe Wanderers, who are currently dead last in the second tier standings, at Adams Park.
