Germany captain Manuel Neuer has broken his leg while skiing during ‘extra vacation’ time allocated after his nation’s World Cup elimination.
The 36-year-old played every minute of Germany’s campaign in Qatar which saw them get knocked out of the group stages for the second successive tournament.
And, after being given time extra time off by Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann, the veteran shotstopper has confirmed he’s sustained an injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season.

In a post on social media, Neuer wrote: ‘Hey guys, what can I say, the end of the year could have definitely gone better.
‘While I was trying to get my head clear while ski touring, I suffered a lower leg fracture. Yesterday’s surgery went well. Many thanks to the doctors! However, it hurts to know that the current season is over for me. Take care! Your Manuel.’
Bayern players who were eliminated from the group stage were supposed to resume training at Sabener Straße this week, before Nagelsmann extended their vacation time.
Neuer chose to go skiing – in an attempt to clear his head after their embarrassing elimination – but will now miss the rest of the season with a broken leg.
The 36-year-old will be a massive loss to the Bundesliga giants, who are just four points clear in the league after a shaky first-half of the season.
Manuel Neuer was unable to prevent Germany’s shock elimination from the 2022 World Cup
It comes as the latest bad news for the veteran goalkeeper, who is still dealing with Germany’s shock early exit from the Qatar World Cup.
A loss to Japan and a draw against Spain meant their win over Costa Rica in the final group stage game was meaningless following results elsewhere.
The national side have now underperformed at consecutive World Cups following their embarrassing group stage elimination during the competition in 2018.

It was only last month that the goalkeeper made the shocking revelation that he has suffered from skin cancer and had surgery three times to counter it.
Neuer took to Instagram to share that he has been suffering from skin cancer, having now invested in a sun cream with tennis star Angelique Kerber.
He said in the video: ‘We both have a history of skin diseases. In my case, skin cancer on my face, which required three surgeries.’
Neuer, who went under the knife three times in an effort to treat the cancer, still has the facial scar today.
