Barcelona ‘send staff out to Qatar’ to try to lure Xavi back to Nou Camp

Barcelona’s quest to install Xavi as their new manager will be stepped in the coming days as they are planning to send a team of staff members to Qatar to finalise the move.

The Spanish side sacked Ronald Koeman last week and Xavi has become the favourite to take over at the dugout at the Nou Camp.

But there is some way to go yet according to TV3, as the 41-year-old, who is currently coach of Qatar Stars League club Al Sadd, still has two years left on his current contract.

In fact, the Qatar Stars League club issued a defiant statement via their social media account last week.

They said: “In response to what’s circulating recently, the #AlSadd management reaffirms that Xavi has a two-year contract with the club and is fully focused on the team’s upcoming matches, to maintain our lead at the top of the league and to defend the title.”

It was then claimed that the Al Sadd owners wished for Joan Laporta, the Barcelona president, to travel to Doha and negotiate a deal for the Catalan star.

Now the La Liga giants have responded to their demands by sending out a team to the Middle East to wrap up a deal and bring Xavi back to the Nou Camp.

Laporta, however, will not make the journey.

And, it seems like Barca are now ready to respond to their demands by sending a team out to Qatar in order to finalise the switch, although Laporta will not be making the trip.

As reported by TV3 (h/t Mundo Deportivo), vice-president Rafa Yuste and director Mateu Alemany will be flying to Doha to get the deal done.

The two will head to Qatar from Kyiv on Wednesday, just following the conclusion of Barcelona’s Champions League clash against Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine.

The hope is that they will be able to convince Al Sadd’s owners to allow Xavi to leave prematurely.

It’s thought Barcelona plan to confirm the appointment of Xavi this Thursday and have him presented after the side’s encounter with plays Celta Vigo in La Liga at the weekend.
