Barcelona registering Kounde results in team-mate being relegated two divisions

Barcelona registering Jules Kounde has relegated one of their players to the third division of Spanish football.

It’s no secret that the La Liga side are struggling to get players off their books so they can register new ones. And the arrival of Kounde from Sevilla has had a negative knock-on effect on a team-mate.

The Frenchman has missed their opening two La Liga games as the club are over the league's wage cap limit. But recently it was confirmed that the 23-year-old is officially registered and was eligible to face Real Valladolid on Sunday.

But, according to journalist Toni Juanmarti, midfielder Pablo Torre has been registered with Barcelona B to guarantee Kounde's registration.

It is thought that Torre's registration with Barca B is only temporary – but he will have to stay in the squad of Rafael Marquez's side if the club are unable to make space for the teenager by Thursday's transfer deadline.

The 19-year-old moved to the Catalan club a permanent transfer from Racing Santander in June, with a view of playing for the first-team this season.

Barcelona have added the likes of Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski to their squad this summer, along with Kounde.

Under head coach Xavi, the Blaugrana were held to a goalless draw with Rayo Vallecano on the opening day of the season- but ran out 4-1 winners against Real Sociedad over the weekend. They also featured in a midweek friendly against Manchester City for charity which ended 3-3.

In the Champions League, their opponents in the group stage are Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Viktoria Plzen.

The European giants dropped down the Europa League last campaign – but Xavi is adamant they can improve this time around. "It’s a very difficult group, perhaps the toughest," he said. "We’ve made very good signings this season, we’ve invested a lot.

"The Champions League and the league, we want to go through and fight for the trophies. But the challenge is massive. It’s perhaps the group of death.
