Barcelona leave fans bemused by bragging what Lionel Messi did to James Milner

Barcelona’s social media activity has left fans baffled, after bragging about what Lionel Messi did to James Milner

The Spanish giants have had a week to lick their wounds after being knocked out of the Champions League 5-2 on aggregate by PSG.

Crashing out in the round-of-16, the nearest they have come recently to lifting the trophy is the semi-finals, losing 4-3 on aggregate to Liverpool in a famous Anfield night two years ago.

But Barca shared a post on social media throwing back to a moment involving Messi and Milner, both on the pitch that night, from a previous encounter.

The Englishman was part of the Manchester City side that faced the Spanish side in the 2015 European tournament.

Having won 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, they were heading into the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win looking secured.

Messi picked up the ball on the right wing, with Milner putting pressure on him.

But the Argentine nutmegs his opponent, leaving him on the floor having slid in for the tackle,. before skipping into City’s half.

This footage was shared on Barca’s Twitter page, celebrating six years since the moment happened.

Viewers, though, were left unimpressed at the club’s attempt to build excitement amid missing out on a Champions League title for a sixth consecutive row.

“0 CLs in six years,” one said.

Another commented: “How you’re celebrating nutmegs?!”

While a rival fan held nothing back, with: “And Barca are now european has beens!! While the new president practically begs and shows his true love for a player who is in his 30’s.”
