The teenager, who joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven, is under contract with the Blues until the summer of 2024.

Barcelona’s interest is a surprise given he is yet to make a senior appearance at Stamford Bridge.

Barca may struggle to tempt Maatsen away from Chelsea, given he is highly-rated at Cobham.

There were even reports Chelsea could recall Maatsen early from his loan at Coventry but Sky Blues boss Mark Robins insists he’s not concerned about that.

Speaking to CoventryLive, Robins said: ‘I am certainly not going to go into any details of any contractual terms.

‘But from my perspective there’s no concern about that. There’s no point in being concerned. I have not heard anything to the contrary.

He’s with us for the season and hopefully that remains the case because I think he’s getting a really good and grounded experience both here and with the Netherlands.

‘And I am sure Chelsea are happy with that and his loan so far, and how he is performing and developing, so I am sure they are happy with that.’

The Sky Blues are in seventh place and are just one point off Stoke City, who are in the final play-off place in English football’s second tier.
