Barcelona can repeat Alves trick as mega-rich ex-Chelsea ace Oscar is ‘offered’

Barcelona have reportedly been offered former Chelsea star Oscar by his agent, but the player is not said to be a priority for the club right now.

Oscar left Chelsea to join Chinese Super League club Shanghai Port – then known as Shanghai Shenhua – for £60million in 2016.

The 30-year-old originally earned a reported wage of £400,000-a-week, but a contract extension two years after his arrival in China has seen his wages increase to £560,000-a-week.

And despite earning such high wages in the Chinese Super League, according to journalist Gerard Romero, via Barcacentre, Oscar would be willing to accept the same contract conditions at the club as Dani Alves.

Alves, 38, re-joined the Catalan giants in January and is reportedly the lowest earner at the club with wages of just £23,500-a-week.

Rumours elsewhere suggest Alves will earn as little as £200,000-per-year, which roughly equates to £5,000 per-week.

Eyebrows were raised when Oscar was first linked with Barcelona given the club’s on-going financial struggles, but if recent reports are to be believed then Oscar would be willing to accept low wages in order to join.

Barcelona remain on the lookout for a player to replace Philippe Coutinho, who recently returned to the Premier League with Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.

Coutinho is due to fly to the UK on Tuesday after having completed his medical.

After struggling to be a part of new boss Xavi Hernandez’s plans at the Camp Nou, Coutinho was forced to look elsewhere in pursuit of regular first-team football.

Oscar has had a successful spell in China which has seen him win the Chinese Super League title with his current club in 2018.

The former Brazil international has made 113 appearances in the league in total, where he has scored 34 goals and provided 73 assists.
