An awkward-looking Sadio Mane has pulled ‘an Ashley Cole' after a photo has circulated of him posing next to his Bayern Munich team-mates – but there was a reason behind his look.

The former Liverpool striker, who joined the Bundesliga side this summer in a £27.4m deal, was seen looking rather out of place.

And some have suggested that the photo resembles that of Cole when the former Chelsea defender posed with the Roma side, looking distinctly out of frame.

With his side all huddled together, Cole is very much on the sideline, with his hands grasped behind his back and looking towards the camera with a faint smile.

As for Mane, who’s scored four goals in as many games to help Bayern enjoy a perfect start to the season, was part of Bayern’s promotional photoshoot for beer company Paulaner.

While the rest of the side featured in traditional German outfits and had a beer in their hand, Mane sat without a glass in his hand. Although he did look a bit awkward, the star has been praised as he is a devout Muslim and so abstains from alcohol.

One wrote on social media: “No matter the situation, Sadio Mane never forgets his religion.”

Another said: “Manè holds his religion in high esteem.”

A third wrote: “Mane and Mazraoui, give it up for these guys.”

Mane commented during the Paulaner event: "It feels like I've been here for a very long time. Even though changing clubs is not always easy, I'm very lucky to be here. I'm very happy and proud to be part of this club"

It comes after Jurgen Klopp called Mane "the national hero in Senegal" in a heartwarming message.

Despite losing one of his best players Klopp was full of affection for the 30-year-old. "He has a huge heart for his homeland, building schools and hospitals locally for good reasons," he told the Bundesliga's official YouTube channel. "It's an incredible story, how he even got started with football. [He's] a really great guy."
