The Americans announced last month that they were seeking investment in the club by selling shares.
It was felt after 17 years of protests that the club were looking for a full sale, which could raise as much as £7bn.
While United supporters have been buoyed by the Glazers’ apparent decision to put the club up for sale, there is a fear that the Americans are not yet willing to cede full control of the Red Devils.
And fans’ worst fears have been confirmed after Avram, who owns 90% of the club alongside his five siblings, has suggested United may not be fully sold.
Asked for an update by the Athletic, Avram said: ‘It’s not necessarily a sale.
‘It’s a process and we’re going forward with the process, so we’ll see what happens.”
‘I’m here to really watch the World Cup but I appreciate your interest.
‘That’s the update, it’s the process and the process is proceeding.’
Ten Hag is certainly hopeful of a full sale, given the problems the club have encountered in the last decade.
The Dutchman believes the Premier League landscape has changed and that any sale would see ‘more investment’ in the Red Devils.
‘There’s a change in circumstances when you compare [the Premier League] with five or 10 years ago,’ the Dutch coach told reporters.
‘The competition is much tougher.
Newcastle are coming, even West Ham, maybe not now in the table but they have huge investment.
‘Spurs definitely and I don’t need to talk about [Manchester] City and Liverpool or Chelsea. You can quickly count seven or eight clubs that can compete in this league.
‘It’s also about strategy not just money. But it’s clear that when you don’t have the right players and quality players you will not be successful and achieve the targets you set.’
‘There will be more investment possible which is good.
‘We spoke about the culture we want, we spoke about objectives, goals and the culture and he confirmed it won’t change.
‘It will be even better because more money will become available for this project.’
