Eddie Hearn has branded fans that believe what Tyson Fury says as ‘mugs’ after The Gypsy King’s latest comments on the Anthony Joshua fight. Despite previously stating that he will not be happy with his career if he doesn’t face AJ before he hangs up his gloves, Fury recently made a guarantee that the long-awaited grudge match will never happen.

The pair had been in negotiations to square off on December 3, but communication dropped at the eleventh hour. As a result, Derek Chisora stepped in to fight Fury for a third time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – losing via tenth-round stoppage.

Now, Fury is expected to face Oleksandr Usyk in the first undisputed heavyweight unification clash of the four-belt era in the Middle East at some point between February 18 and March 4 with Joe Joyce understood to be next after that.

Meanwhile, the Joshua fight seems further away than it’s ever been with Fury repeatedly denying any interest in the all-British showdown. But Hearn doesn’t believe a word that comes out of Fury’s mouth anymore.

“Then he does another interview where he says if he does not fight Anthony Joshua then he will not be happy with his career,” Hearn told iFL TV. “If you’re going to take one word, he says seriously then you are a mug but he’s entertaining and he’s a showman. You’d have to be quite daft they’re going to fight Joe Joyce over Anthony Joshua when the Anthony Joshua fight is worth seven, eight, nine, or ten times as much money.

Hearn is referring to an interview Fury gave to the same YouTube channel earlier this week. “I don’t think it will happen,” said Fury. “If it was going to happen it would have happened in December when Chisora maned up and stepped up to the plate.

“I can guarantee you will not see it, one hundred percent not happening like you didn’t see Calzaghe and Froch. But I’m going to take on the man that has beaten him twice so it’s irrelevant. I’m going to knock out the guy that beat him twice.”

He added: “Me and Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world [is bigger], two undefeated champions not a man who has been beaten in three of his last five fights. He doesn’t bring anything to the table. In terms of money, I’ll earn double the amount from Usyk than from the other sausage.”

Joshua has also distanced himself from the fight, suggesting he would rather box Dillian Whyte again than Fury. “If I’m going to erase my memory, imagine Men in Black, they come with that torch,” he told GQ. “It has to be Dillian Whyte, south London, north London. Fury is good, but he’s a Manchester boy. I think Dillian he has more swag in general, but he’s come up short a few times.”
