Jack Grealish will be offered a bumper £200,000-a-week deal to stay at Aston Villa.

Villa are prepared to smash their pay ceiling to keep the England star out of the clutches of Manchester City.

The club's owners – American Wes Edens and Egyptian tycoon Nassef Sawiris – have personally sanctioned the mega £10m-a-year new contract in a last ditch attempt to hang on to Villa's pin-up boy.

City boss Pep Guardiola wants the 25-year-old and talks are now under way to try and broker a deal. The Midlands club are adamant they will stick to their £100m valuation while City will try to get at least £10m knocked off that figure.

Grealish is a boyhood Villa fan and has been at the club since he was eight but his departure now seems inevitable.

Bumper new deal or not, Grealish is desperate to not only win trophies but also wants to try and cement his place in Gareth Southgate's England side.

He was only used sparingly as the Three Lions made it to the Euros final despite the clamour from the terraces for him to start.

Villa's offer – way and above anything the club has ever offered before – is a real statement of intent, but isn't actually likely to be a deciding factor.

If City get their man he can expect to double his £130,000 a week wages anyway and put himself just beneath Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling in the Etihad pay league.

It's not down to money anymore – the streets are paved with gold for Grealish no matter what he decides.

Guardiola knows he can virtually guarantee the one thing Villa can't offer and that's consistently challenging for trophies on all fronts.

He wants Grealish and Tottenham star Harry Kane and is hoping City's dealmakers can get the two over the line.
