Aston Villa have confirmed they have agreed a season-long loan deal with Sevilla for left-back Ludwig Augustinsson.

The Swedish international has agreed the switch to Villa Park with a view to making the move permanent. Aston Villa are understood to be paying a £500,000 loan fee according to The Athletic.

Augustinsson, 28, has become Villa’s fifth signing of the summer and there is still over seven weeks left of the summer transfer window.

He will not be short of friends when he arrives at Villa Park after the club’s recent acquisitions of former Sevilla team-mate Diego Carlos and compatriot Robin Olsen.

Villa have also tied up deals for highly-rated free agent Boubacar Kamara and the permanent transfer of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.

Augustinsson, will get his first taste of English Football next month when the Premier League makes its return, but for now the Swede has begun the process of obtaining a work permit ahead of his move to the Midlands.

The Swede is expected to join up with his new team-mates on their pre-season tour of Australia after already having passed a medical

Gerrard is targeting two senior players fighting for every position next season and his newest arrival will add competition for places with Lucas Digne in the left-back berth,  following the departure of Matt Targett to Newcastle.

Villa have been one of the Premier League’s most active clubs during the summer transfer window with Steven Gerrard showing his intent ahead of his first full season in charge at Villa Park.

Gerrard took over the reins at Aston Villa in November 2021 after a successful three-year stint in Scotland as the manager of Rangers.
