Aston Villa fans slam Jack Grealish after heartfelt message to sacked Dean Smith
Jack Grealish has been targeted by Aston Villa fans online after posting a heartfelt message to Dean Smith following his dismissal as manager.
Villa announced on Sunday that Smith has been relieved of his duties after suffering five straight defeats in the Premier League.
The latest shortcoming, a 1-0 loss away at Southampton on Friday night, proved the final straw for the 50-year-old.
After winning the Championship playoffs in 2018/19, avoiding Premier League relegation a year later and securing an 11th-place finish last term, Smith was unable to build on that success this season, taking just 10 points from their first 11 matches.
His side appeared far weaker without the brilliance of Grealish, who departed to seal a £100million switch to Premier League champions Manchester City back in the summer.
The England ace was instrumental in Villa's success last season, particularly in the first half of the campaign, registering six goals and 12 assists in 26 appearances.
After hearing the news that Smith has been sacked, Grealish paid tribute to his former manager on Twitter.

He quote tweeted Villa's post thanking Smith for the memories and said: No1 will ever compare *love heart emojis* the real goat".

One wrote: "You put us in this mess".
Another said: "Why’d you leave a year into a 5 year contract then? he built villa around you and you left him out to dry".
A third posted: "Hung out to dry by you Jack. He built his team around you and you signed a long term deal. Then the money, Manchester nightlife and the vanity was more appealing to you."
While one simply put: "You caused this".
After suffering what proved a costly defeat at Southampton, Smith's final words as Villa boss were: "I'm a scrapper, always have been.
