Arsenal’s Martinelli starts fan meltdown using hourglass emoji in cryptic tweet

Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli has sent fans into meltdown after he tweeted a cryptic message of an hourglass on his social media platform.

The 23-year-old was signed by the Gunners in 2019 for £6 million but featured just 14 times in the Premier League last season in an injury-hit campaign.

The youngster is a hugely popular figure amongst the Arsenal fanbase for his quick trickery and Brazilian flair but his tweet has caused speculation about what announcement could follow.

Sporting the new Arsenal away strip, Martinelli's post of an hour class has led to wide specualtion of a potential new contract, a change of squad number or a different announcement altogether.

Although, it is unlikely that a new contract will follow with the Brazilian's current deal not due to expire until 2024.

Moreover, Martinelli only signed a contract extension at the start of last season meaning a new deal is even more improbable.

The former Ituano forward currently wears 35 for the Gunners and some have speulated that the hourglass emoji could be a change of squad number

With Dani Ceballos returning to Real Madrid and Mesut Ozil quitting north London for Fenerbache, numbers 8 and 10 have become available at Arsenal.

However the 23-year-old may be holding out for his old squad number at Ituano, 11.

Lucas Torreira currently holds that at Arsenal but after a successful loan move to Atletico Madrid winning La Liga, now might be the time for the Uruguayan to depart.

In his two seasons in England, Martinelli has managed just 5 Premier League goals in 28 apperances.

However, often deployed out wide and from the bench, Arteta will be hoping the 2021/22 campaign is a breakout season for the Brazilian star.
