Arsenal’s huge Gabriel Jesus contract offer after Man City star sets deadline

The future of Gabriel Jesus will be resolved next week, with Arsenal ready to almost double the Manchester City striker’s wages.

The Brazilian’s representatives are due in Manchester for crunch talks with the Premier League champions. Jesus, 25, is understood to be keen to move to Arsenal, where his pay would rocket from £110,000-a-week to £200,000-a-week. A move to the Emirates would also see Jesus re-united with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, with whom he worked at City. Etihad boss Pep Guardiola is expected to reluctantly sanction the sale if Jesus says he wants to go.

City, who have signed two new strikers for next season in Erland Haaland and Julian Alvarez, would want £60million for Jesus. The fact that Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League will not deter the striker from moving to London. The Gunners finished fifth in the Premier League and will instead be involved in the Europa League – and they are increasingly optimistic that they will try to win that competition with Jesus in their ranks.

On Friday, Arsenal confirmed that Alexandre Lacazette is leaving north London on a free this summer, with the striker expected to re-join Lyon. With former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having departed in January and Eddie Nketiah's immediate future also uncertain, Arsenal are currently light up front – and Jesus would be expected to lead the line for Arteta next season.

Following his goal for Brazil in a 5-1 win over South Korea earlier this week, Jesus appeared to confirm that his future will be decided by early next week. Jesus told reporters: “I’m looking to see what’s best for me and above all, for my career. From Tuesday, we’ll see what is the best.”

While Arsenal are firmly in the hunt for Jesus, the forward has been linked with Juventus in recent weeks – and though Arsenal's lack of Champions League football has not deterred Jesus' interest in a move to the capital, Juve will be able to offer him a place in Europe's elite competition next season.
