Arsenal urged to snub Isco January transfer as Mikel Arteta told to trust in two stars

Arsenal: Has Arteta found a winning formula for Gunners?

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been told to avoid buying Real Madrid outcast Isco and put his faith in youngster Emile Smith-Rowe instead. The Gunners have been linked with the playmaker and could make a move this month.

Arsenal are said to be on the hunt for a new number ten this month.

Mesut Ozil, arguably their most creative player, is unlikely to play for the club again despite being under contract until the end of the season.

Rumours suggest the Gunners could sell him this month, with Fenerbache reportedly keen.

But instead, he is set to see out the rest of his contract and leave for free at the end of the season, though Arsenal are still apparently eager to bring in a replacement this month.

Isco is said to be one of their targets, with the Spaniard set to leave Madrid before too long.

The playmaker is under contract until 2022, but appears to have no future under Zinedine Zidane.

Madrid are reportedly set to let him leave this month, with speculation suggesting Arsenal could launch a bid.

But former Gunners star Kevin Campbell believes Arteta should instead stick with young Smith-Rowe.

The teen, who has started Arsenal’s last two games in the number ten role, is seen as one of the stars for the future at the Emirates along with fellow winger Bukayo Saka, who Campbell thinks is another who should be given game time.

The former Arsenal striker explained to Football Insider that Saka and Smith-Rowe are too valuable for their game time to be disrupted by the arrival of Isco.

Campbell said: “Well Emile Smith Rowe’s been creative, Saka’s been creative. So I’m not sure where Isco would fit.

“He’s s a gifted player, don’t get me wrong, but he’s not someone who’ll pick the ball up and go past people. He’s a technical operator.

“You need to be playing half-decent to get the best out of him.

“I’ve seen him a lot and when you play well, he tends to play well.

“But he’s not someone who takes the game by the scruff of the neck.

“I might be wrong, but there are other players I think they should go for.”
