Arsenal have been told the price they would have to pay to make a surprise move for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford. The England man has enjoyed a strong start to the season under Erik ten Hag, playing down the middle as Cristiano Ronaldo has been left on the bench, and the 24-year-old has been tipped to make a move to Arsenal.

Rashford has five goals in eight games in all competitions this season, and former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes he could follow in the footsteps of Gunners striker Gabriel Jesus in leaving Manchester for north London. “Marcus Rashford would be a great fit for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal,” Collymore told CaughtOffside.

“Away from the pitch, he’s done some great work, but in footballing terms, he’s been a Manchester United player for so long that I worry familiarity is breeding contempt. A perfect example of when a player makes the decision to switch things up and move clubs and it benefits all parties is Gabriel Jesus. Since he left Manchester City and joined Arsenal earlier this year, he has been sensational and arguably the biggest contributor to the Gunners’ incredible form.

“But back to Rashford – he knows what it’s like to play for a massive club, so I would have no doubts that he could deal with the pressure of playing for Arsenal. I think Rashford would benefit massively from a move at this stage in his career. He’s only 24 years old, so he still has plenty of football left to play.

Man Utd transfers: Plans for next three signings are damning on Solskjaer

“From Man United’s perspective, if it were up to me, I would let him go and take the money for him, and it would be good money too. You’re easily going to be talking £60m, maybe more. I think that scenario would be good for United, good for Arsenal and good for the player himself.”

Arteta and Arsenal sporting director Edu may feel that they could get Rashford for less than £60million however, as Rashford’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season. If he is not handed a new deal then he will be able to speak with foreign clubs regarding a pre-contractual agreement in January, though English teams including Arsenal will have to wait until the summer if they wish to negotiate with the forward regarding a free transfer.

Rashford has previously claimed that his future remains at United, after he was linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

When asked if he remains fully committed to the club, Rashford replied emphatically. “100 per cent. For me that’s a non-negotiable,” Rashford told Sky Sports.

“For me, I have always wanted to be at Manchester United for as long as possible and be competing for trophies at the club. Hopefully we can get back to doing that and it’s something that I’m definitely pushing to do.”
