Matildas star Steph Catley may be one of Australia’s most recognisable faces following her heroics at the Women’s World Cup, but she’s still very much a ‘St Albans local’ when on club duty with Arsenal.
Catley, 29, was interviewed as a ‘St Albans local’ by unsuspecting presenter Scarlett Douglas as part of the show’s promotion of a £100,000 competition for viewers.
Asked what she would do with the huge cash prize, Catley said: ‘I just got engaged recently so I’d save it up for the wedding for sure, because that’s a lot more expensive than I thought.’
The bizarre incident left fans in stitches, with broadcaster Jacqui Oatley tweeting: ‘Arsenal and Australia star defender being interviewed as a “St Albans local” as part of a £100k promotion on Lorraine this morning has made us giggle.

Football fans and pundits took to Twitter, now known as X, to discuss the hilarious exchange
‘She scored that winning penalty v Ireland in their World Cup opener in front of 75,000 Aussies.’
The full-back joined the Gunnersfrom Reign FC in 2020 and has established herself as a fan favourite at the north London club.
She has also represented her country for the last 11 years.
Catley is engaged to fellow footballer Dean Bouzanis, who plays for League Two club Sutton United. The pair met when they were both playing for Melbourne City in Australia.
The loved-up couple announced their engagement in January 2023, with Catley revealing the exciting news on Instagram.
‘My forever family,’ she posted alongside an engagement ring emoji and a love heart.
‘Congrats guys. Omgg,’ Matildas skipper Sam Kerr replied, with a love heart emoji.

Caitlin Foord, who also plays for Australia and Arsenal, commented with four smiling faces heart emojis and a heart hands emoji.

Socceroos great Tim Cahill replied with a love heart while Arsenal teammate and England star Beth Mead posted: ‘My Steffyyyy, eeeek so happy for you both.’
