Arsenal star Lacazette jokes ‘I thought we were friends’ after Xhaka clash
Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette told Granit Xhaka 'I thought we were friends' after the midfielder hurt him in training.
Lacazette shared an image of his bloodied sock following a clash with his team-mate as they trained ahead of Sunday's visit of Leeds United.
Posting the picture of the sock on his Instagram story, the Gunners forward tagged Xhaka along with two laughing emojis.
Xhaka is known for his enthusiastic challenges – but luckily no lasting damage was done and Lacazette is expected to line up for Sunday's Premier League clash.
More worrying for boss Mikel Arteta will be recent speculation linking Lacazette with interest from Real Madrid.
The French forward has scored 10 goals in all competitions while leading the line for Arsenal this season, as well as posting three assists.
After a barren spell earlier in the campaign, Lacazette rediscovered his scoring touch recently, netting five times during a six-match unbeaten run in the league after Christmas.
But the 29-year-old will enter the final year of his Emirates deal this summer, and it is believed talks are yet to begin over a new deal.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano said he could also be the subject of interest from Serie A clubs this summer – although Gunners chiefs have been impressed by his attitude in training.
“This is an interesting situation because last summer he had an opportunity with Atletico Madrid," Romano told The Blind Gooner’s YouTube channel.
"He was one of the options, but they decided to sign different players.
“Let’s see also the situation of Italian clubs, because Lacazette was appreciated with Juventus, but they are happy with [Alvaro] Morata.
“At the moment Arsenal are happy with his performances, his mentality also in training because also I’m told that he’s training so well in the last weeks and everything.”
