Arsenal risk repeating same mistake as they ‘table contract offer’ to Vlahovic

Arsenal are prepared to take an almighty risk in order to secure the signature of Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic by making the Serbian the highest earner at the club.

According to Italian news outlet Lanazione, the striker will earn himself an eye-watering £308,000 a week if he decides to accept the deal that the Gunners have 'tabled' and make the move to the Emirates Stadium.

Of course, paying any player that fee carries risk, but especially for the Gunners.

Previously, when the North London club have put an exceptional offer on the table for a star, they have gone off the rails.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a prime example of that. The Gabonese forward was handed a £250,000-a-week deal in 2020 but has since upset the club on several occasions and was most recently stripped of the captaincy of the club for a disciplinary breach.

Former Gunners hero Mesut Ozil is another player who was handed a monstrous deal but slipped in form from that point onwards and was eventually shown the exit door.

At 21, Vlahovic has the chance to establish himself as one of the most important players in an Arsenal team that will only improve as time goes by and the young prospects continue on their upwards trajectory.

The Fiorentina forward has scored 17 goals and assisted two in 21 Serie A appearances so far this season, and as he continues to find the back of the net, the more interest he will have from top clubs all around Europe.

With Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah both out of contract at the end of the season and expected to depart, it is no surprise that manager Mikel Arteta wants to add another forward to his ranks.

Especially as Aubameyang has been frozen out of the team and looks destined for a move in the near future as well

The Spaniard spent £150million over the summer to add quality and youthfulness into the squad, but none of that money was spent on improving the players in the final third.

However, that looks set to change and the arrival of Vlahovic could help Arteta secure Champions League football for next season and thus attract even more top talent to the Emirates.
