Arsenal are clearly not yet ready to give up in their pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic. But for the sake of the club’s pride, it is about time they did. Vlahovic clearly doesn’t want to join the Gunners and Arsenal should not put all their eggs in the Serbian’s basket.
It is obvious to see why Arsenal are pursuing Vlahovic in this window.
The 21-year-old equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s all-time record of most Serie A goals in a calendar year in 2021.
He is the leading goalscorer in the Italian top flight this term with 17 in 21 appearances.
Arsenal are in no way the only club in Europe keen on signing Vlahovic.

However, they are wise to the fact that most sides would wait until a summer window to make big signings such as the forward.
Arsenal are trying to beat others to the deal before they enter a bidding war.
Fiorentina are willing to sell this month and have made that crystal clear.
They do not want Vlahovic joining rivals Juventus and know his value will decrease with his contract expiring in 2023.

But Vlahovic is consistently reported to be wanting to stay at Fiorentina until the summer before deciding his next move.
Juve is his preferred destination but the Old Lady cannot afford him just yet.
Arsenal fans will be happy to see their side entering the race to sign one of Europe’s hot properties.
There has been progress under Mikel Arteta and the signings he and technical director Edu have made recently have all been successful so far.
The Gunners have the basis of a strong starting XI but need to add quality in a couple of areas, including up front.
Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah look set to leave at the end of their contracts in the summer, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang potentially going even before then.
But if it has been made clear to them that Vlahovic will not change his stance, then Edu and Arteta must move on to save face.
It is no surprise that Arsenal are not at the top of Vlahovic’s wishlist in terms of his next club.
There may not be many alternatives out there with such an impressive recent goalscoring record.
But Arsenal need a striker who wants to join them and be part of what Arteta is building.
At the moment, Vlahovic is not that.
