Signing a top-rated striker has been the priority for Chelsea throughout the summer and the imminent signing of Romelu Lukaku resolves that issue. But the return of Lukaku to west London may now open for the door for Arsenal to resolve their own transfer aim.

Thomas Tuchel enjoyed huge success in his first few months in charge of Chelsea, leading the club to Champions League glory.

He also made Chelsea into one of the best defensive units in Europe, with clubs struggling to break them down.

But they nearly missed out on a top-four finish largely due to a lack of goals from their forward players.

Erling Haaland was the initial top target, but Chelsea swiftly moved their attention to Lukaku after Borussia Dortmund made it clear they wouldn’t negotiate this summer.

Now a reported £97million fee with Inter Milan has been agreed and Lukaku is heading back to London to complete his medical this week.

Whether he’s back in time for Chelsea’s season opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday remains to be seen.

But Lukaku’s imminent arrival at Chelsea may well be the key to Tammy Abraham leaving, according to the Daily Mail.

Abraham was the preferred option through the middle under Frank Lampard and he was a regular source of goals.

DON’T MISS

But the England striker was often overlooked by Tuchel and left out of the squad on several occasions.

With Lukaku now joining, Abraham’s chances of playing will be significantly reduced and that could well see Arsenal swoop in.

The Gunners are named as one of four teams interested in meeting Chelsea’s £40m valuation.

There are still question marks over Alexandre Lacazette’s future at the Emirates, with just one year left on his contract.

Folarin Balogun is one for the future at Arsenal, but it’s clear that Arsenal want to bring in a striker capable of making an impact straight away.

Despite making just 12 Premier League starts last season, Abraham scored six goals and his 12 in all competitions were not bettered by any other player at Chelsea.

He had established himself as Chelsea’s leading frontman the season before in his first full campaign in the Premier League.
