Arsenal reportedly remain interested in signing Marco Asensio from Real Madrid after having a massive summer transfer bid turned down.
The Gunners made a £34m offer for Asensio in the window which was rejected by Los Blancos, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser (via The Sun).
The forward was told by new boss Carlo Ancelotti that he was part of his first-team plans which was the reason behind the deal being shunned.
However, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta remains keen on the 25-year-old and is eyeing up a second push to get a deal done when the window opens once more in January.
Asensio has less than two years left on his contract with Real, so should he not sign a new deal, they will likely cash in either then or next summer.
And despite Ancelotti's promise, Asensio has struggled for minutes so far this season.
He had been limited to substitute appearances up until the last two games where he bagged a hat-trick against Mallorca and featured for 80 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Villarreal.
The Spain international, who missed their Euro 2020 squad, could opt to leave in search of first-team football – especially with the 2022 World Cup approaching.

Arsenal will face competition should he become available, though – the Premier League trio of Leeds, Leicester and Everton are also said to be interested.
And their north London rivals Tottenham, along with Serie A side AC Milan, were in the running this summer and may reignite their interest too.
Arsenal did sign a Real player ahead of the new season with Martin Odegaard joining for £30m after he spent the previous campaign on loan at the Emirates.
Odegaard is very much a central player, whereas his former team-mate Asensio is primarily a right-winger, though can be used out on the left too.
The Gunners currently have Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Martinelli as their wide attacking options.
Real, meanwhile, are stacked in that department, and Kylian Mbappe's expected arrival in 2022 could mean Asensio is surplus to requirements.
