Arsenal in Celik tug of war, Onana drops hint and Arteta receives Odegaard boost

Mikel Arteta is expected to make several changes to his Arsenal squad this summer as he plots a route back into Europe.

The Gunners endured a miserable 2020/21 campaign, finishing down in eighth place and subsequently missing out on Europa League qualification for next season.

They were dumped out of the Europa League this term at the semi-final stage, while also suffering fourth-round and quarter-final exits in the FA Cup and League Cup.

Thus, Arteta will undoubtedly be looking at ways he can improve his squad in the summer window – and Daily Star Sport are on hand with the latest Arsenal transfer news.

Onana drops hint

Reports suggest Arsenal are targeting a move for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, who could be available for just £7million this summer with his contract set to expire next year.

Onana was banned from football for 12 months in February over a doping violation, but he is due to appeal that suspension on Wednesday after insisting it was simply caused by human error.

Should his appeal prove successful, the 25-year-old could join Arteta's squad this summer – and eagle-eyed fans have noticed he is now following Gunners goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana on Twitter…

Gunners set for Celik tug of war

Along with rivals Manchester United and Tottenham, it is believed Arsenal have entered the race for highly-rated Lille defender Zeki Celik.

Celik played a key part in Lille's shock Ligue 1 triumph last season, emerging as their first-choice right-back in what proved a phenomenal campaign.

However, the 24-year-old could be offloaded for the right price this summer, and the Evening Standard claim Arsenal, United and Tottenham are chasing his signature.

Real's Odegaard stance revealed

Arteta appears determined to keep hold of Odegaard for at least another season, having been left impressed by the on-loan Real Madrid man in his six-month spell at the Emirates.

And the Arsenal boss will be delighted to hear the assessment of Spanish journalist Paco Gonzalez, who says Real may be tempted to let him leave on another loan switch next term.

Gonzalez explained to El Partidazo de COPE that Odegaard could be allowed to rejoin the Gunners on loan in 2021/22 depending on how many players Los Blancos let go between now and the end of the window.
