Arsenal handed boost as Partey returns for Wimbledon game after injury scare

Arsenal have been handed a boost ahead of their Carabao Cup tie with AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday night after Thomas Partey returned to training.

The Ghanaian midfielder returned to action at London Colney on Tuesday to ease injury fears after he had limped off in the 75th minute of the Gunners' win over Burnley on Saturday.

Partey missed Arsenal's first three Premier League matches and the second round of the Carabao Cup with an ankle injury with the win at Burnley his first start of the season.

Mikel Arteta will also be boosted by Kieran Tierney's presence at training after he hobbled off with cramp minutes after Partey.

In pictures released by Arsenal from Tuesday's training session, Partey could be seen battling with full-back Sead Kolasinac.

He was also shown taking on midfielders Mohamed Elneny and Bukayo Saka during one training exercise.

The Gunners are preparing to take on League One side Wimbledon at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night with a place in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup up for grabs.

Arsenal are at home once more on Sunday as they face rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's match, Arteta said: "I hope that I can put out the strongest team I can.

"That means that the players have performed really well and then give a really strong performance and this is what we want to do.

"Let's see who's available, how they recover and what is the best way to approach the game.

"Wimbledon are really direct, physical but at the same time, they have a big goal threat in many situations, so it will be a tough opponent.

"I am really happy to hear that because the boys are really looking forward to playing at the Emirates again in the cup.

"Winning that game is the only priority right now and then we can think about Spurs and how special that is as well."

The draw for the fourth round will take place on Wednesday night immediately after the conclusion of the tie between Manchester United and West Ham United.
