Arsenal fans joke about Edu’s transfer business as his own son is offloaded

Arsenal fans have joked that transfer chief Edu is in a ruthless mood during the ongoing summer transfer window with his own son set to join Watford on a free.

Defensive midfielder Luigi Gaspar, 18, looks set to leave north London for Hertfordshire following the expiration of his contract, with their training grounds in close proximity.

The scholarship contract of the former Corinthians prospect will come to and end at the start of July following a period at the club that has been hampered by injuries and featured only one appearance for their under 23 side with a further 11 for their under 18s.

With Fabrizio Romano reporting that Edu's son Luigi will join Watford on a free transfer after leaving the Gunners' academy, fans were in agreement.

One wrote: "Tears he released his son. He’s serious."

With a second adding: "Edu let go of his own son and people are saying arsenal aren’t back. Ruthless gunners."

With a third agreeing: "No way Arteta told Edu he'd have to sacrifice his son if the (Dusan) Vlahovic gamble flopped."

That update comes after the club secured Eddie Nketiah on a long-term contract and completed the signing of 22-year-old midfielder Fabio Vieira from Porto.

Mikel Arteta said of Nketiah: "I’m delighted Eddie is staying with us. He represents what we are all about and all the values of the club.

"We are very happy that he has extended his contract and now we have to get to work and continue to develop the great talent and person that we have in him."

With Edu saying after the Vieira deal: "We’re so pleased to have completed the signing of Fabio from FC Porto.

Fabio is a player with special qualities who is comfortable with the ball in the final third of the pitch. We are all looking forward to working with him and enjoying his future contribution to Arsenal.

"We will now continue to work hard and are looking forward to finishing this transfer window as strongly possible."
