Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put his Arsenal struggles behind him with a stunning performance on international duty.
Up until earlier this week, it was unclear whether the Gabon skipper would be allowed to travel due to coronavirus restrictions.
However, he was released and looked back to his best with a brilliant showing against DR Congo in the qualification for the African Cup of Nations.
The Gunners captain is enduring his most difficult season in English football and was dropped by Mikel Arteta for the recent North London Derby with Tottenham for disciplinary reasons.
That was merely the latest blow in a season that has seen him way off the usual standards that have come to be expected of the striker.
But against DR Congo, Aubameyang picked up an assist and a goal as his nation ensured their qualification for next year’s competition.
Arteta had hinted that he would have liked the 31-year-old to stay at London Colney, although did hope that if he went away, he would be able to find his goalscoring touch.
Asked about his international commitments at the weekend, he said: “Well, you never know sometimes if they play the game and he scores and he gets out of the environment and then comes back sometimes it’s good.
"It’s great to have him here obviously we can train more specifically with him some things that will be important. It’s not in our hands. If he’s allowed to go, he will go. If he’s not he will stay.”
And while the Arsenal boss is sure to be happy with his main man, supporters across social media were similarly excited after a performance reminiscent of when he was at his best.
One fan said: “Looks like prime Thierry Henry in this clip… Clearly been watching some film!!” While another replied: “Form is temporary — class is permanent.”

A third observed: “Good to see that the pace hasn’t completely gone.”
“Proof that the international break is such an important part of football and a footballer's mental health. Can't wait for Auba to get back into form,” another concluded.
Another Tweeted: “Electric pace. I see. Good to see him getting goals. Can only help his confidence.”
While a sixth said: “Still has that pace, we need to see more of it in the Premier League.”
