Arsenal chief Edu’s three-point plan for Transfer Deadline Day

Arsenal have had a hectic January transfer window so far, having successfully offloaded Mesut Ozil and replaced him with Martin Odegaard, but they could have a busy deadline day ahead of them.

The Gunners have completed two deals so far, with Odegaard joining on loan from Real Madrid and Matt Ryan signing from Brighton on loan.

They’ve also worked to sell Ozil to Fenerbahce, while Sead Kolasinac, William Saliba and Sokratis all departed the Emirates.

Arsenal aren’t likely to break the bank before the window closes, but could well spring a few surprises.

Here, Daily Star Sport takes a look at Edu’s three-point plan for deadline day.

Offload Mustafi

Shkodran Mustafi has emerged as a surprise target for Liverpool.

The German centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season, and won’t sign an extension.

He doesn’t feature in Mikel Arteta’s plans, and a move away today could be the best thing for Arsenal to avoid losing him for a free.

Liverpool are said to be interested, and a move to the Premier League champions could be the best thing for all parties involved.

Sign Van Aanholt

Arteta wants to sign a new left-back in order to provide competition for Kieran Tierney.

Arsenal have identified Crystal Palace ace Patrick Van Aanholt as an ideal candidate for the role.

Van Aanholt is out of contract at the end of the season, and will be available on the cheap.

Concluding a deal today would mean Arsenal have a replacement option at left-back for the rest of the season.

Sell Balogun

Arsenal don’t want to sell Folarin Balogun, but will lose him for free in the summer if they don’t.

The forward signing a new contract is incredibly unlikely, and he has been lined up for a move abroad at the end of the season.

But having turned down £8million last January from Championship side Brentford, they now face the prospect of losing the forward for free.

Selling him today would at least mean they manage to get a fee for the 19-year-old.
